A tag is a word linked to various articles. Each news article is assigned "tags". You can click on any of its assigned tags to be brought to a seperate page that lists other articles with the same tag. For example, an article might have a tag called "zelda". You can click on the zelda tag and you will be shown a whole list of articles related to zelda. It is a useful way to find more information on topics that interest you.
